Description
on the 13th of December 1943 at the town of Kalavrita which at the time was a blooming town and one of the richest towns in Greece, the Germans collected every villager at the town square and told them to bring food for one day and a blanket. At the square the Germans separated the men from the women and children. All males from ages 15+ were taken to a nearby hill to be executed by what was called "The Final Blow" where once everyone had fallen down they went up close and shot everyone again to make sure they were dead. But dispite that method there were very few survivors. Today that hill has been dedicated to all the men who died there.
This statue has been built in the back courtyard of the Holocaust museum. It dpicts a woman dragging her dead husband with her too shattered children next to her.
The town of Kalavrita was burnt down on that day and had to be rebuilt. It took 2 days to bury the dead.
